Heroism consists of putting others first, even at your own peril. Similar to saviour consciousness; feeds the egoself.

I prefer to be 'myself' instead of an idealized ‘hero'. Only by being myself; or in other words by sweeping my own doorstep, I am useful to others. Why on airplanes do we put the #mask on ourselves first, and then on the child?
